Hiawatha Lumber on 40th Street
Here's the story behind the Golden Rule Store: In 1902 James Cash Penney ventured by train to the mining town of Kemmerer, in Wyoming's lonesome Red Desert. Penney founded a general store based upon two principles: (1) cash only, (2) do onto others as you would have others do onto you. He called his store the Golden Rule Store. From this single business sprang what eventually became the J.C. Penney Company.
